I'm Back

Nov 8

My brother John and I left Dayton Saturday morning around 8 am. Breakfast in Jamestown and in camp by 11 am. It took a little time to set up camp for me as I still stay in a tent. John has a converted car hauler that is real nice. I am staying with him this week and only using the tent for storage and stuff.

We headed into the woods around 2:30. I got to my hunting area, and got everything setup and in my tree stand by 3:30. I really was unprepared for the first hunt. I did not have the correct clothing on for the temperature, and I did not have all of the things I needed with me. Oh well on with the hunt. Around 4:30 that little doe came in on me and messed around for about 20 minutes. She then walked off about 50 yards towards the road. She stopped and messed around there for probably about half an hour. The back side of here ears were very white. I would loose her in the brush, but she would move her ears and I could see her again. I did not see anything else tonight. I came out late as usual. John had lost his GPS so we spent some time looking for it. We did not find it. Back to camp there were other club members in the aux camp so we stopped and talked with them for awhile. We also watch the eclipse of the moon.

See ya tomorrow

John and I slept in some this morning and Scott who had stayed with us last night went out early. We wanted to go do some scouting a couple of places that we had found the night before. John also wanted to look some more for that 500 dollar GPS. He finally found it. We had walked over it several times. He also found my radio that I had dropped without even knowing it.

We went to town for some breakfast. Then got our acts together and did some scouting. We went down to the north trail, and there we found a woods full of rubs. It is too dangerous to come down here in the dark. We went around to the west to where I had been hunting. I showed John the 5 scrapes in a row that I wanted to hunt by. He left me there and went on to the valley he wished to check out. As soon as he got there, he had a doe make a friend of him and it followed him for quit a way. He found a lot of sign. At the end of the day we did not see any more deer. We did see one buck on the way out to breakfast and another on the way back in. Both of them fairly small Maybe 6 pointers I do not know for sure.

Out to Grannies for supper and now it is bedtime. See ya tomorrow.
